About Crucible Freediving

Why we exist

Progress through calm, disciplined, safety-first training.

Crucible Freediving is a freediving school built on one principle: depth is earned through patience, not pushed through pressure. [Replace with your story — how the school started, your diving background, and what makes your teaching different.]

We teach the mental and physical sides of the sport in equal measure, because a calm, well-prepared diver is a safe diver. Every session is built to lower the heart rate, not raise it.

Shane Jansen van Vuuren

Shane Jansen van Vuuren

Shane is one of South Africa's leading freedivers. In 2024 he set a South African national record in Dynamic No Fins — 155 metres on a single breath — and took the men's title at the inaugural DUC Cup in Durban. A registered AIDA judge for both pool and depth, he organises national and Western Cape competitions, and is as committed to growing the sport in South Africa as he is to his own diving.

[To confirm with Shane — his story in his own words: what first drew him to the water, his path into freediving, and his mission to share it with others (including developing freediving for young South Africans). Replace this paragraph.]

Safety first

Safety is never optional.

Freediving is safe when it is supervised, structured, and unhurried. That belief shapes every course we run.

Direct supervision

Every in-water session is led and buddied by a certified instructor. No diver is ever alone in the water.

Rescue competence

Rescue and recovery drills are built into every course — not an afterthought, but a core skill we practise on repeat.

Small groups

We cap group sizes so coaching stays personal and safety stays uncompromised, at every level from first breath-hold to instructor.

Our approach

Small groups, individual attention.

[Replace with your teaching philosophy — small groups, individual attention, and the balance of the mental and physical sides of freediving.]

We meet you where you are, whether that is your first breath-hold or your instructor exam, and build a clear, safe path to where you want to be.

Train with people who put safety first.

Tell us your experience and goals, and we'll help you plan a safe, confident start.
